Hurray Procrastination!

So I'm supposed to be reading about Cognitive Load and Split Attention effects etc. Instead I'm writing a blog post. In my research I came across a site that is not only excellent for procrastination, it also teaches you something AND helps the poor. Awesome! www.freerice.com is basically a vocabulary quiz, though they have other topics. Every question you get right donates 10 grains of rice to the UN world food program. I learned some great words already such as osculate=kiss, extirpate=destroy and gimcrack = showy but cheap. I hope you've all been thoroughly distracted and entertained. If you weren't, then just give in to your bibulous tendencies and come back later.

  1. gimcrack sounds/looks like gimmick, which is showy to attract attention. Crack isn't exactly cheap, but cheaper than some other drugs. Perfect. That will be my mnemonic device for remembering this word.

  4. I should comment on how you are hopelessly out of the loop, like my uncle that just discovered wordle. Instead I'll just tell you that when you get to 100,000 it resets. I'm trying to use it to learn German and French now - wish me, um, chance? that doesn't sound right...

See what happens when my favorite site still hasn't updated! It's like the person managing it had some sort of busy week or something, sheesh.

  5. Sheesh guys, no need to hold back here. We're all friends. Seriously, next time I'll keep my lame discoveries to my self, and then you won't get to help me save the world a grain of rice at a time. :)

  6. I see grammar and originality die a slow death at 4 in the morning. We're just trying to get you off this procrastination thing and back to work =)
